3 Reasons to Try POUND Fitness Classes | Mairead Callahan, RDN, CPT | Improving Health blogPOUND is a new group fitness class created by two female drummers who wanted to incorporate cardio interval training into an intense drumming workout.

Everyone has their own pair of drumsticks to use as the class goes through a series of isometric and plyometric movements including squats, lunges, jumps, twists, forward bends and stretches, all while drumming to the beat of the class.

In POUND class you use Ripstixs, which are lightly weighted plastic drumsticks made specifically for the POUND workout. Why should you try a POUND class? Here are three great reasons.

1. Time flies in POUND classes.

The classes move fast and are constantly changing to get you the best workout. Instead of counting down the minutes on the treadmill or the number of reps on the bench press, POUND shifts your focus to the rhythm and volume of the drumming in the class. You will be thinking about keeping the beat, not worrying about how long is left of class.

2. It’s a great workout.

POUND works your entire body. The constant up and down drumming with many, many squats is great for your legs, butt, and core. Not to mention that whatever position you are in, you are working your arms and shoulders with the weighted Ripstixs.

POUND can help people of all fitness levels improve coordination, strength, and cardiovascular health. Burning up to 450+ calories in a half hour, it is also a great way to lose weight.

3. It’s fun!

What better way to end your day then jamming out? Pound out your frustrations and negativity and head home to relax and enjoy the rest of the night.

At the very least, a POUND class is an exciting way to switch up your workout routine. You don’t want to get stuck in a fitness rut with little motivation to get up and go to the gym.

Take a break from your normal spin or yoga class and try POUND this week!
