Making it Count: Rita Beckford, MD

beckford-ozRita Beckford, MD, a CareATC® physician, wellness consultant, and national keynote speaker, is making an impression on the lives she touches by personal experience. As she said with great passion, "we only are given one body, so make it count!"

Because of her personal journey, she has not only transformed her own life, she is now sharing her experience and formula by giving others the opportunity to change their lives.

The Love of a Granddaughter

Dr. Beckford's journey began before she had the vision of health and wellness. As an engineering major at Northwestern, she received a call from her Grandma Rose seeking the help and support of her very bright granddaughter.

Grandma Rose had many health concerns: diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. She was on multiple medications; however, she was concerned she might not be receiving the necessary tools to guide her toward progressive lifestyle changes.

While on her weekly call, Grandma Rose stated, "We need a doctor in this family," so Dr. Beckford thought about it and made the choice to go into medicine for the love of her grandmother and the hopes to help enhance and prolong her life. Dr. Beckford completed her medical training and went on to do her residency.

A Turning Point

Two years after completing residency and in her mid-twenties, Dr. Beckford was pre-diabetic and on multiple medications for high blood pressure due to lack of exercise, proper nutrition, and stress. Following the birth of her two children she found herself 80 pounds heavier, and recognized a need for change and redirected her focus toward her initial vision of prevention and wellness.

This was a turning point in her life; realizing what had happened to Grandma Rose, as well as other loved ones, it was evident these diseases can affect anyone, but she thought, "there has to be a way I can choose my own health destiny." 

After multiple attempts at various diet and lifestyle programs, she looked to her colleague and husband, who is also a CareATC® physician. Together they realized that no diets they had tried were conducive to their fast-paced lifestyle. They needed to create a formula that fit the life of most households and to give the tools for success through empowering transformation in health and in life.

The Beckford Formula™ is Born

Inspired by both personal experience and medical knowledge, the Beckfords worked together to create a formula. This fool-proof and everyday platform gave others the tools and support to successfully obtain a healthy lifestyle. The "Beckford Formula: Lose the Fat for Good" was born. Dr. Rita Beckford continues on her crusade to being healthy and championing this formula to those she touches daily. She became a personal trainer and a Zumba fitness instructor, has created a smart application, and constantly projects a “can do it” attitude.

After experiencing Dr. Beckford’s passion and love of coaching people in their healthy lifestyle changes, a client and follower of the Beckford Formula submitted Dr. Rita Beckford to the Dr. Oz show about up and coming recognition of physicians like her. Within 24 hours she had a call from the studio asking if they could document a “day in the life” of Dr. Beckford, and even invited her to meet face-to-face with Dr. Oz himself. As she says: “You only have one body in this lifetime, so stand up and make the changes you deserve!”

Dr. Beckford is honored to be considered an expert in her field, and appreciates the recognition of those who have successfully applied her teachings. Of the many wisdoms Dr. Beckford shared, the bottom line to her message rang clear: it doesn’t matter how much knowledge or education you have, you can be your own influence. Given the right tools and formula, you can make an everlasting difference, one that will set your destiny for personal health and well-being.
