After all, real mentorship is a personal thing. Though usually informal, it can require managers to "improvise", to be at their best when their employees are watching very closely.

At it's best, mentorship is proof positive that an employee is valued and worthy of investment. It's also an opportunity for mentors to put focused effort into being a leader worth following.
