Healthcare in Top Spot for Number of Data Breaches | Carah Counts | Employer Healthcare Strategies blog by CareATC, Inc.The Healthcare sector reported more data breaches than any other industry in 2015. An overview by IBM provides a closer look at industry data loss, here described as an "arms race between adversaries and defenders".

The Retail sector used to be the source of the most numerous data breaches, but many of those problems were corrected last year. Most of healthcare's losses occured through theft of currency or extortion tactics, involving financial insitutions and hospitals.

The survey also indicates that while overall security events are less common, serious breaches are more frequent, indicating more sophisticated efforts on the part of attackers.

What's more, 60% (an all-time high) of attacks come from insiders and employees. Of these, only 33% of data losses were by accident.

Additional security and employee technology training has been shown to cut down on data breaches and malware attacks from all sources.
