5 Refreshing, Guilt-Free Summer Treats to Help Beat the Heat | Mairead Callahan, RDN, CPT | Improving Health blog by CareATC, Inc.Nothing puts you in the mood for something sweet, cool, and refreshing like a hot August day.

Beat the heat with one of these guilt-free summer treats next time you have a craving for a chilled dessert, or make them for your next cookout or dinner party.

Your guests are sure to be impressed!

1. Frozen Banana

A frozen banana by itself, or half covered in dark chocolate is an excellent healthy summer treat! Simply freeze the bananas yourself and individually store in plastic wrap.

Grab one to go after a workout or for a night-time treat.

2. Frozen Grapes

Grapes are another fruit that turns into a lovely cold treat when stored in the freezer. After buying your grapes, rinse them and store in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer.

Make sure the grapes are just slightly damp. If there is too much water in the bag, the grapes will freeze together, but if they are just slightly moist they will come out of the freezer with a lovely frosty coating!

Let the grapes sit in the freezer overnight, and then enjoy alone or stir them into some Greek yogurt for a sweet, creamy snack.

3. Homemade Fruit Popsicles

Try making your own popsicles! Homemade popsicles are all the rage these days. Find a recipe that is full of healthy 100% juice, whole fruit, and fruit purees.

This is a great idea to use for a summer cookout, or for a summertime project with the kids! You cannot go wrong with this delicious homemade dessert.

4. Frozen Greek Yogurt

Today it is easy to find frozen Greek yogurt treats in your local grocery store. Most Greek yogurts contain less fat and calories and more protein and calcium per serving than traditional ice creams.

So if you are craving some creamy vanilla ice cream, try having some frozen vanilla Greek yogurt instead!

5. Nice Cream

Nice cream is when you make "ice cream" from bananas. It is really quite simple and delicious.

Start with 2 large frozen bananas, and place them in a blender with a little almond milk and peanut butter. Blend until smooth, serve, and enjoy!

I love to give mine a little crunch by topping it with a dash of granola!
