Spare Extra Calorie Intake by Saying "Yes" to H2O | Marla Richards | Improving Health blog by CareATC, Inc.With the holiday season comes high energy, good spirits, laughter, joy, and food! We slump into a simpler, relaxed state of mind. Our problems are no longer our problems until the New Year. We don’t fear the usual, rather we embrace more calories!

Whether at an event/party or just at our home, extra food is all around us during the holiday season. Some forget to be healthy while others just don’t care and most will end their year with extra weight because it was just too hard to say no.

It’s inevitable; the Holiday season will always exist, meaning we will always have extra food in our path. However, this could be the year that you dominate holiday food—with the help of water!

Happy H2Olidays: A Poem

Pull out the tricks to set your mind straight,
Don’t let yourself put extra food on your plate!

"How do you do this?" you might ask,
Drink water throughout each day, make this a task!

Water is important; it helps keep you full,
It prevents overeating and being too hot or too cool!

With the holiday season comes tasty treats,
Drink at least 64 ounces of water to help you avoid sweets!

Water keeps you hydrated and helps you reach satiety,
It will allow you to think clearly and will prevent dessert anxiety!

Load up on water before an event or holiday party,
Don’t let foods tempt you, stick with what's healthy and not too hearty!

Your body needs water and it has good reason,
Remember the importance of H2O during this holiday season!

Did you know that your body can survive longer without food than it can without water? Well, it can! Water plays a vital role in keeping your body healthy; in fact, it’s one of the most important nutrients for you to consume. Think you’re hungry? Think again! Often times, we feel hunger, when in reality, our body is simply dehydrated. Our brain can’t register thirst; rather it recognizes dehydration as hunger. Some say they hate water, despise it even. You will have an aversion to water if you do not make it a part of your life.

Our body is made of 60% fluid, but we lose water from the body throughout each day. We lose water through our pores, breath, eyes, and when we go to the restroom. This means we constantly have to consume water! What happens if we don’t? Well, we’re more than likely drinking fluid that just doesn’t quite measure up to H2O. Water does many good things to the body such as regulating body temperature, transports nutrients to our body cells, and helps the kidneys flush waste along with many other positive things.

So, often times, we eat when we’re actually thirsty. Who knew?  If you don’t drink enough water, make it your goal to start. Now that you know all the benefits water has to offer, start drinking water today. By drinking a glass of water before and with every meal, you will find that you will reach satiety a lot sooner. Make it your goal to consume at least 64 fluid ounces of pure H2O each day to help your body stay hydrated.

What better time to start than the Holiday season? Start with this goal and your "thirst" for healthy living will only grow!
